Camera Connect Canon App Redesign (Personal)

Introduction

I was interested in this project since I'm a current user of this app, and I had a really bad experience since it is not intuitive; I chose it for my Visual Design, Wireframing and Prototyping course at SCS of York University.

First, I jumped into the App Store and saw all the user's reviews and was not alone. The overall rating was 2.1 out of 5; check out some of the comments:

Heuristics Evaluation

After a heuristic evaluation, I found the app violated four Heuristics:

  1. Visibility of system status: Altho we see a timeline, it is unclear what the next step is and how many steps remain to complete this task. Mayor usability problem (High priority to fix)
  2. Match between system and the real world: This text uses computer jargon. Some users may need to look up the abbreviation ASCII. Minor usability problem (low priority to fix)
  3. Consistency and standards: The issue with the bottom is that it does not look like a primary button, and it says “OK.” Minor usability problem (low priority to fix).
  4. Recognition rather than recall: At some point in the tutorial to connect your camera to your phone, there are no more guides for what is to come in the camera interface. Catastrophic usability problem (Fix this before released product).

The problem

Users get frustrated because the Camera Connect Canon app is not intuitive.

Critical steps are missing from the connection guide flow. The most important is to disconnect your phone from the local Wi-Fi.

The solution

The main objective of this course was to create a high-fidelity prototype to fix the problems I encountered. See the flows I created .
